Save The Rainforests

The Rainforest is home to over fifty percent of all plants and animals on earth. Some rainforests are an unexplored frontier, with all kinds of new animals and even new tribes of people

The national Wildlife Federation in 1993 listed ten reasons why we should save the Rainforests.

1.    People have no right to destroy the rainforests for their own purposes.

2.    Destroying the forests may change the world's weather patterns.

3.    The loss of the forests is causing serious problems such as soil erosion and water pollution.

4.    Wood products in which the rest of the world depends may soon become scarce and more expensive.

5.    Many migrating birds common in North America depend on the rainforest habitats. The loss of the rainforest may affect these species.

6.    Cultures of the forests are losing their native lands. They have a right to live where and how they want.

7.    There are many plants that could help scientists develop new crops, medicines, and other products. We don't want to lose our knowledge of the rainforest plants, animals and other information.

8.    Rainforests are exotic and unique where strange plants and animals live, which inspires many people. We can't lose this inspiration.

9.    The forests contain more than 50% of all plant and animals species in the world. Destroying the forests will destroy these species forever.

10.So little has been researched in the forests that could provide people with many beneficial products, even a possible cure for cancer. We can't destroy what nature has given to us.

There are a lot of ways that you as an individual can help to save the Rainforests. Here are just a few things as an example of what can be done to help save the Rainforests.

Worldwide boycotts are one of the most effective ways of stopping, Rainforest destruction. One way of boycotting would be not to buy furniture products made from rosewood, mahogany, ebony, and teakwood, because more likely then not they came from the Rainforests.

Another way is to boycott fast food restaurants that serve hamburger that came from cattle that was raised on Rainforest land.

One example of one such boycott is The Rainforest Action Network (RAN) in 1985 launched a nationwide boycott of Burger King, which was importing cheap beef from tropical rainforest countries. Two years later, Burger King canceled thirty-five million dollars worth of beef contracts and agreed to stop importing beef from the rainforests.

You can also reduce your use of wood and paper. Here are some ways you can do that, when using paper use both sides of a piece, use your own cloth bags when going to the store, use cloth napkins and towels, and avoid disposable paper plates and cups. One important thing you can do is recycle. Always use recyclable paper products and remember to recycle.

Conserve on your oil use. The more gas, oil, and coal that is used. That means that they must find more places to retrieve it from.

Hold businesses accountable. Corporations need to know that they will be held responsible for business practices that are socially or environmentally destructive. If you feel their practices are environmentally wrong send them a letter voicing your concerns. What do you have to lose the price of an envelope and stamp compared to the destruction of acres of land that you might be able to help save?

There are also many organizations that you can join in the fight to save the rainforests. There are some organizations that allow you to pay to save the land by buying acres of land. There are many ways to get involved in saving the rainforests so way not get involved.
